Start 500 mg PO OD; increase by 500 mg/week to 2000-3000 mg/day in divided doses
Full effect at 6-12 weeks. EC tablets better tolerated.

1-2 g PO QID (4-8 g/day); reduce to 2 g/day maintenance

Generally considered safe for RA and IBD in pregnancy. Causes folate antagonism — supplement folic acid 5 mg/day. Neonatal haemolysis and hyperbilirubinemia possible at delivery.

Excreted in breast milk. Avoid in neonates with G6PD deficiency or jaundice. Generally acceptable.
