Indications
- Skin and soft tissue infections (especially MRSA community)
- Intra-abdominal infections (with metronidazole or as part of combination)
- Aspiration pneumonia (anaerobic coverage)
- Pelvic inflammatory disease (PID)
- Bone and joint infections (staphylococcal)
- Acne vulgaris (topical)
- Bacterial vaginosis (vaginal)
- Malaria (with quinine)
- Toxoplasmosis (with pyrimethamine)
Adult Dosing
Skin/soft tissue infections (moderate)
300-450 mg PO every 6-8 hours
7-14 days
Serious infections (IV)
600-900 mg IV every 8 hours
Acne (topical)
Apply thin layer BD to affected area
Bacterial vaginosis
300 mg PO BD
7 days
Pediatric Dosing
Neonates: 5 mg/kg IV every 8 hours (avoid benzyl alcohol-containing formulations)
