Indications

Acute and chronic productive cough with mucus hypersecretion
Bronchitis (acute and chronic)
Pneumonia (adjunct)
Asthma with mucus plugging (adjunct)
COPD — sputum clearance
Neonatal RDS (prophylaxis — IV)

Adult Dosing

Acute cough

30 mg PO TDS

5-7 days

Take after meals with plenty of water

Chronic bronchitis

75 mg SR PO once daily

Long-term

Nebulisation

15-22.5 mg (2-3 mL) BD-TDS via nebuliser

Maximum daily dose: 90 mg/day

Pediatric Dosing

Age Range: All ages

Dose: Under 2 years: 7.5 mg BD (drops). 2-5 years: 7.5 mg TDS. 5-12 years: 15 mg BD-TDS

Max/day: 90 mg/day (adults)

Drops (7.5mg/mL) formulation for infants. Safe from birth (IV) for neonatal RDS prophylaxis.

Pregnancy & Lactation

Pregnancy: Category C

Avoid in 1st trimester. Used with caution after 28 weeks for fetal lung maturation (investigational). Do not use routinely.

Lactation: Caution

Excreted in breast milk. Avoid long-term use during breastfeeding.
